As director of the Office of Finance, Michael Demko leads a team of accounting, finance and purchasing professionals in support of the agency’s goals and initiatives. His office plans and forecasts the agency’s finances; performs budgetary accounting and reporting; manages banking relationships and cash control; develops various financial analyses; and coordinates monthly accounting and reporting with the state Comptroller’s office.
The Office of Finance is also responsible for procuring all services, equipment and non-alcohol items for more than 600 Fine Wine & Good Spirit stores, three distribution centers, a headquarters office and several field office locations.
Michael brings more than 30 years of professional retail, licensing and wholesale experience in accounting, finance and operations to the PLCB. Prior to joining the agency, he served most recently as vice president/controller of Nine West Holdings, Inc. (formerly the Jones Group), an American designer, marketer and wholesaler of women’s wear. Prior to that, he worked as a manager and controller in the restaurant industry. He brings with him a solid financial background focused on financial controllership, strategic planning, forecasting, budgeting and financial analysis. Michael’s goal is to implement initiatives that streamline financial operations.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from King’s College and an Associate degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Luzerne County Community College. Currently, he serves as an appointed trustee for Unity College in Unity, Maine, as well as a trustee for his local church.
Michael lives in Mountaintop, Luzerne County, with his wife, Jacqueline. They have two daughters, Stephanie of Spring City, Chester County and Michelle of Mountaintop, Luzerne County.
